Pickleball Tournament: 7 weeks, peaks at ~5 h.

A pickleball tournament — repeated 3–9 s rallies at about 1:1.6 work:rest, 3–6 matches a day, where tissue injury is a bigger risk than fatigue. That's the intermediate plan; beginner runs 6, advanced runs 8 weeks.

Beginner
Six weeks for a USA Pickleball 3.0 player: dinks, drops, serves and returns, open play every Saturday, a practice round-robin, then a 5-day taper.Shortest runway 3 weeks · research minimum 3 · 3 sources
6 wk
1.8-3.2 h a week
Intermediate
Seven weeks for a 3.5–4.0 player: two technical keys, point-matched conditioning and athletic strength each week, match sims every Saturday, a 7-day taper.Shortest runway 4 weeks · research minimum 4 · 3 sources
7 wk
2.6-5.4 h a week
Advanced
Eight weeks for a 4.5+ player: a general week, four build weeks of attack and counter patterns with PB-23 at 4–5 sets and tournament simulations, then a 7-day taper.Shortest runway 4 weeks · research minimum 4 · 5 sources
8 wk
3.3-6.8 h a week

The checklist comes with it.

T-7Read the entry pack: days, matches a day, start times and scoring. Amateur formats vary and weren't verified against governing-body documents.
T-7Last heavy lower-body strength session — at least 5 days before the first match.
T-2Sharpening session: 30–40 min at match intensity, low volume.
T-1Activation only, or rest. Pack carbohydrate snacks and electrolyte drinks for between matches.
race morningArrive in time for a full activation before the first match — 5 min more if you're over 50.
race morningCourt shoes only — running shoes are unsuitable on court.
race morningOver 50: the Achilles is the big risk (82.5% of pickleball Achilles ruptures are in players over 50). Do PB-30 before you play.
afterTransition: off or a walk / easy spin and prehab for 2 days, then easy hits at RPE ≤ 4. End it only when soreness is ≤ 2/10 and no joint or tendon hurts the morning after a hit.

Every plan cites its homework.

Low evidence for the structure: no trial has compared tournament-preparation structures in any racket sport, and future top-250 tennis players showed almost no week-to-week periodisation (Perri 2023). The build → sharpen → taper order is standard coaching practice, consistent with endurance taper science (no racket-sport taper trial exists); treat the weeks as structured coaching practice, not tested prescriptions. The level descriptions for padel, squash and badminton are the dossier's own — no common rating scale exists. Amateur tournament formats were not verified against governing-body documents — check the entry pack. Fuelling figures are tennis's, extended to the other sports by analogy. A recreational round robin caused no neuromuscular fatigue (n = 6, Martin 2025) — for pickleball, tissue injury is the bigger tournament risk.
