Duathlon (standard): 10 weeks, peaks at ~12 h.

10 km run, 40 km bike, 5 km run in about 2–3½ h: a restrained Run 1, an Olympic-intensity bike and a strong Run 2 on loaded legs. That's the intermediate plan; beginner runs 10, advanced runs 8 weeks.

Beginner
10 weeks, three runs and two or three rides a week: a run-bike-run brick every two weeks and a full-distance simulation in week 9.Shortest runway 6 weeks · research minimum 6 · 8 sources
10 wk
3-8 h a week
Intermediate
10 weeks: run quality Tuesday, bike quality Wednesday, a run-bike-run brick every week from week 5 and a race simulation in week 9.Shortest runway 5 weeks · research minimum 5 · 8 sources
10 wk
6-12 h a week
Advanced
8 weeks, four or five runs and five rides: a run-bike-run every week with Run 2 as the race-pace leg, and a race simulation in week 7.Shortest runway 4 weeks · research minimum 4 · 8 sources
8 wk
8-14 h a week

The checklist comes with it.

T-7Elastic laces; decide your bike-shoe strategy (on the pedals or not).
T-3A Run-1 pacing card. The biggest mistake is going out at open-10K pace.
T-1Rehearse the mount and dismount lines (TR9).
race morningRun warm-up, then hold Run 1 back — the fastest finishers are relatively fastest in Run 2 and both transitions.

Every plan cites its homework.

Finish-time bands are dossier estimates. The pacing evidence is one observational race dataset (Powerman Zofingen, 6,671 finishers): the fastest quartile was relatively fastest in Run 2 and both transitions and relatively slowest on the bike. No RCT has tested run-bike-run bricks.
